      OOO, i love this question. This car is on the ORIGINAL (90k+ miles) engine. Primary power adders are some minor air box mods, rx8performance underdrive pulleys (mostly to keep water pump from cavitating and to keep alternator from frying), catback exhaust, and custom versatuner tune. otherwise it's an old but seemingly healthy engine (at least above 3,000 rpms).

    Excellent thumbnail! Where did that come from? Track was really dirty for your first run. Tons of debris cleaning, thanks. I was wondering if at 1:50 the tail coming around: just too hot in and/or too aggressive trail braking? No foot cam so I'm unsure. 48.3 was impressive. Not sure there was too much time left out there. Excellent outro!

      @rx8matt 14 дней назад

      i think you snapped that picture, i just cropped it down. Thanks. 1:50 was a little too hot and a little too late on the brake release and a little too slow getting back to maintenance throttle to stabilize the car during turn-in. had i opened up the throttle sooner i think i could've avoided the slide.

    love seeing these uploads ! what are your alignment specs matt ? i have 18x9 on mine and its only on a 225 but i plan on doing a 275 square setup. ( mine is mainly a canyon carver ) so tire wear is not really an issue.

    • @rx8matt
      @rx8matt 14 дней назад

      about 13-9/16" ride height front and rear (call it 13.5"). Maximum settings for front camber and caster, rear camber matches the front. i don't even know the exact numbers as i do it in my garage, i just want to ensure i have side-to-side and front-to-rear consistency. i would assume the camber is high 2s, low 3s. i run zero toe all around for good street tire wear and less straight-line drag at circuits. That's a bit spicey, if i didn't care about tire wear i'd probably use +1/16" total rear toe in, and i'd probably be anywhere from -1/16" to -1/8" total front toe out for autocross and corner-intensive circuits.

    Very nice runs, not really sure how an FRS did a 42.0 and the Miata a 41.5. I rode with Sean who did 43.6 and it felt like close to a perfect run and he was pinned during the really fast twisty bits. The course was tricky to read and I definitely read a lot of it wrong. What video editor do you use? I was in the pits and could hear that start line worker constantly screaming, too much enthusiasm for my taste. 200 runs in a heat = 200 screams 😳 He must have been on speed.

    • @rx8matt
      @rx8matt Месяц назад

      I pondered that same question. 4.5 degrees of negative camber, low ride height, and A052s certainly played a role. also the FRS appears to have an acceleration edge on my tired RX-8. That said, cody entered the double-right 90 turn better than me, in an almost motorcycle-like line. and i overslowed a bit in the last right before finish. i am pretty happy with my 43.1 but there's always room for improvement. i use VideoPad for the final compilation. racerender and dashware for data and general splitscreens.

    Looks like you took inspiration from my drifting finish during your ride along ;) Epic car control, you always look like you are going in too hot but somehow you make the car do the impossible. The shifting was magical, you are like a human PDK. I like the POV shot, though it feels too zoomed in, was getting a bit of motion sickness watching it. Reminds me of simracing in VR.

      Yeah, aka I should've used a small lift and kept my darn feet off the brakes! I'll look at my data this afternoon to see how much I lost right there. This was my first go pro event, I was troubleshooting battery issues and didn't have time to play with settings prior. I'm going to zoom out for next event. Ps... Can't wait to see you almost FTD run on video

      @@rx8matt The very last corner really did not require brakes. I gained half a second by just lifting and being patient on throttle. Car was more stable too. My video is up with data. Looking at the traction circle looks like your car had a slight edge in braking grip. Maybe I've just got too much front camber. I struggled to make the stop box. Nice to see we were both easily pulling 1G in the wet. Bowie is very fast and planted in the wet.

    That couldn't have been a stock RX8. It almost kept up with those corvettes on the straights. Not disrespecting the rotary but the corvette is a 6 litter V8. Maybe a twin turbo rotary (rx7 motor)?

      He lifted off the throttle on the straight to let me by because my overall lap times were faster. It's part of courteous one-track behavior. Both better were definitely quicker on the straights when they weren't giving a "point-by"

    Unless a driver has superior skills of racing in the rain as Pedro Rodriguez did, better to sit out a downpour like this. I have raced in light, soaking rain during the night at VIR. I thought no problem, just drive a little bit slower. Alas, I had several spins, and was fortunate that I made no contact with tire walls or other cars. When the track is very slick or there is standing water, it gets dicey behind the wheel.

      Fal420 fans, higher water percentage, higher pressure cap, undersize water pump pulley, earlier fan activation. No overheating

      Yah, im responding from my other channel lol but in my RX8 on certain tracks there's turns like 11 at LagunaSeca if you do a low angle slide on entry and just stand on it in apex you get a slight countersteer exit but the RPM stays up right at the point that it needs to be to be in powerband to run up the straight. Terrible on tire life, lol but there's no amount of quarters at any arcade that produces more fun.
